On camera: Man offers prayers at Kanpur temple, then steals holy brass pot

A man in Kanpur stole a brass pot from a Shiva temple after offering water to the Shivling. The CCTV footage of the incident, which has gone viral on social media, shows the thief performing a ritual before fleeing with the vessel used in the prayer.
The video shows the man arrving at the temple on a scooter. He opens the temple gate, walks in with a bag, folds his hands in prayer, and offers water to Lord Shiva. However, after this act of devotion, the man attempts to steal the temple’s bell.

The footage shows him pulling out a cutter and trying to break the bell’s chain. When his efforts fail, he changes his mind, returns to the Shivling, pours the remaining water on Lord Shiva, empties the brass pot, and puts it into his bag before fleeing.
Joint Police Commissioner Harish Chandra stated that the Nawabganj Police have been instructed to investigate the viral video and establish when the incident took place.
The thief’s scooter number is being traced from the footage.
